Within this series I explored the connection between emotion and communication with structure and colours of flowers and the face.
Society has given flowers such a complicated emotional meaning, it is fascinating how we give flowers both to express love, sorrow and beauty.
Alongside flowers, I focused on portraits in light of structure and colour because I had an interest in capturing subtle moods and emotions. It is interesting how much our communication and interpretation of each other’s emotion comprises of reading slight changes in facial expressions. As a relationship develops often these subtle expressions grow into obvious cues with meaning.
However, across all of my paintings I found an odd satisfaction in combining the organic structures of flowers and faces with more obvious man-made-like patterns, arches and structures to see how they could complement each other.
SURFING!!! I have a lot less to say here. Except I must disclose i'm a no good surfer. Despite this i'm hugely fond of the sport.
For me surfing is an opportunity to appreciate the ocean and the overwhelming strength of nature. You realise how small you and your problems are when you find yourself in front of a large wave. I find surfing very scary, but it is very fun.
Wellington/Whangarei based artist
Natasha is an artist based in Northland and Wellington ( seasonal re-locator).
With a family of artists it seemed likely she'd follow in their footsteps. Currently her work focuses on exploring ideas surrounding flowers and portraits. With an interest in adding unexpected colours to the skintone alongside capturing the subtle emotion in her subject's expression.
Outside of her art she is a full time student studying Law and Economics.
